February 5th Meeting Notes

Posted by [email protected] on February 8, 2015 at 7:05 PM

Hi, everyone!

So this past meeting covered a few technical things to start. The highlights of these were:

We have a new officer! The position of Treasurer for the Spring 2015 semester is Jarrett Moehn. He is very excited to be further involved with the organization and I am sure he is going to do great things for the group.

In other news, don't forget that Darwin's birthday is coming up on February 12th and to celebrate we will be back tabling on the quad! If you have a break between classes or are looking for something to do on campus, stop on by. We are typically located across from Evans, between Taylor Murphy and Derrick.

As far as the involvement fair goes, it was largely a success. This past meeting brought in some new faces and we had a pretty packed meeting room. A lot of new people signed up for emails and notifications so hopefully as the weeks go on we will see more and more inquisitive individuals getting involved.

The next meeting we will be taking sizes for t-shirts. If you want one, please try to attend. If you can't make it, please let an officer know so we can work something out for you. We do also plan to start doing bake sales again in the near future and those dates will be announced soon.

With all of the technical things aside, we did have a brief discussion this past meeting as well. Everyone shared their stories on the misconceptions about evolution they have encountered, as well as some of their own misconceptions that they have overcame through the years and with furthering their education. People shared the discussions they have had over the age of the earth, how the geologic timescale is organized, how we coexist with primates, and many other "issues" as well. There were questions that many of the members were asking themselves, and it was largely decided that through advancement of science and further educating ourselves we all benefit.

Well, that's about it for now. I would say we had a pretty productive meeting and the semester looks to be a very promising one for the SSA. Everyone have a great week and enjoy this beautiful weather while we have it!

See you soon,

-Saber
